Craftsmanship at Friesland – Where Quality Meets Tradition
From concept to coffee cup, every piece of Friesland porcelain is the result of many precise steps. At our manufactory we combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The result is high-quality porcelain that is durable, practical and 100% Made in Germany.
The perfect mix – our own porcelain recipe
It all starts with the right blend of natural raw materials. Carefully weighed, mixed with water, filtered and pressed, the result is a fine, plastic mass that can be shaped into mugs, plates or teapots depending on what is being created.
From sketch to shape – from plaster to 3D printing
Every product begins with a design, often created by talented designers. From there, a master mold is made, which serves as the template for all production molds. Since 2014 we have replaced traditional plaster modeling with a 3D printer, ensuring greater precision and efficiency.
Three ways to shape porcelain
We use three techniques in our production:
- Turning: For symmetrical shapes like cups and mugs.
- Pressing: For plates, using high-pressure tools and granulate.
- Casting: For complex forms like teapots or milk jugs – using hollow or pressure casting methods.
Drying, refining, and firing – hands-on at every step
Before firing, each piece is carefully dried and finished by hand. It is then fired at up to 950°C (first firing), which creates a durable but porous surface that is perfect for glazing.
Glazing & high-temperature firing – the glossy finish
Whether white or colored, each item is glazed by hand through dipping or spraying. The second firing at 1400°C fuses glaze and body – creating a smooth, glossy, dishwasher-safe surface that’s made to last.
Decoration – artistic detail by hand
Whether it’s a fine blue line, a sprayed gradient, or a printed motif – our decorations are carefully applied by hand. Decals made from ceramic pigments are water-soaked, smoothed onto the surface, and then fired at over 1200°C – so the design becomes part of the glaze and is scratch-resistant.
Sorting & quality control – only the best moves on
Every piece is individually checked and sorted into quality grades. Only flawless items are labeled as "1st choice" and sent to be packed and shipped. That’s how we ensure consistent quality – cup by cup, plate by plate.
Friesland porcelain is crafted with care, precision, and a passion for lasting beauty. In a fast-paced world, every piece stands as a symbol of quality and tradition – made for real life, every day.
